Naomi Ocholla is a dedicated community development practitioner with strong academic preparation and practical experience in strengthening community systems, resource mobilization, and ensuring quality standards within community-based organizations. She has built a professional reputation for designing and supporting community programs that are sustainable, participatory, and aligned with best practices in organizational development and service delivery. Naomi is passionate about empowering marginalized communities, enhancing organizational efficiency, and promoting evidence-based approaches that improve program impact.
Naomi aims to continue supporting and strengthening community-based organizations to become effective, accountable, and financially sustainable institutions that deliver high-quality services to vulnerable populations. She is committed to advancing community development through innovation, collaboration, and evidence-driven practice.
As a volunteer at Nyalenda Young Turks Community Based Organization,Mercy Akinyi is both dedicated to community work and Community Development profession.She joined the organization in 2021 after her course work. Her main area of practice is environmental and hygiene promotion.She is also interested in People Living With HIV and AIDS welfare. Prior to joining Nyalenda Young Turks,Mercy practised her career at STIPA and Bondo County Referral Hospital from September 2018 to December 2018 and September 2019 to November 2019 respectively.She worked with various clients involving Income Generating Activities (IGAs) and psycho-social support. Mercy Akinyi was born and raised in Kisumu.She obtained her diploma in Social Work and Community Development at The Kisumu National Polytechnic in 2021. Upon completion of her diploma course,she went straight to Nyalenda Young Turks Community Based Organization to practise her career.
Ruphine Akinyi Olal,an intern at Nyalenda Young Turks Community Based Organization is dedicated to community work and development to help individuals, families and children manage challenges such as divorce, illness,abuse , mental health issues and unemployment.She joined the organization in October 2021 where she works under mental health department where she creates awareness ofental health problems, signs and symptoms of mental health problems and prevalence of mental health problems. Ruphine as worked with Kisumu County Referral Hospital under Medical Social Work Department and gained knowledge on counselling, psychosocial assessment of clients, repatriation of patients and social rehabilitation.She joined Nyalenda Young Turks to acquire more knowledge and skills in social work..
Nancy Akinyi Odhiany, 26years old, Project officer for sexual reproductive health in Nyalenda young Turks community based organization. I graduated from Africa Nazarene University with certificate in Bachelor Degree in Bachelors of Education Arts in special needs. I have gone numerous training since 2020 when I joined Nyalenda young Turks community based organization to address sexual and reproductive health and rights encompass efforts to eliminate preventable maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity, to ensure quality sexual and reproductive health services, including contraceptive services, and to address sexually transmitted infections (STI) and cervical cancer, violence against women and girls, and sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents. Universal access to sexual and reproductive health is essential not only to achieve sustainable development but also to ensure that this new framework speaks to the needs and aspirations of people around the world and leads to realisation of their health and human rights.
Rozzalia Adhiambo Odhiambo, an educationist who just concluded her Bachelor’s degree in special needs eduction. She is very passionate when it comes to impacting the lives of the vulnerable in the society more so those living with disabilities. She is currently working with Nyalenda Young Turks as a volunteer, an organisation which offers great support to the vulnerable people in nyalenda slums and across Kisumu county. With such experience given to her, she manages to work closely with the people living with disabilities within the community and gather some of the challenges they go through. Through this, the Organisation is able to;
1 - Enlighten the people living with disabilities on their rights as recognised by the Kenyan constitution.
2 - Empower the people living with disabilities financially and educating them on how they can manage to sustain themselves and their families. The main reason why she joined Nyalenda Young Turks as she says is, “ to impact the lives of the vulnerable be it children, youth, women or the aged and be the voices of the hopeless since every voice needs to be heard and respected.”
Mauline Akinyi is a self motivated and self driven individual, a teacher by profession. Currently working with Nyalenda Young Turks Community Based Organization under the department of Youth, women and persons with disability.
I advocate for the rights of the disabled persons within the informal settlements in Kisumu County. We have the vision and mission for the disabled persons to help in the implementation of disability related issues where the vision is to be an organisation that creates a barrier free society for persons with disabilities and the mission is to promote and protect equalization of opportunities and realization of human rights for persons with disabilities to live a descent livelihood.
To achieve this, I amplify the voices of the disabled person at the County and National level and advocate for their rights. I eliminate stigma and all forms of discrimination among the disabled persons, promote inclusivity in the society and create a discrimination free environment for persons with disabilities. Economic empowerment, capacity building and sexual reproductive health are also key issues I address in the Community.
In addition, I reach out to the PWDs, sensitise them on disability issues and identify those in need of the assistive devices where have managed to identify 10 individuals who are in urgent need of the devices and due to networking and collaboration, have managed help 5 get access to wheelchairs. It has three mandates as per Executive Order No. 1 of 2020 namely:
Aruwa Helida Adhiambo. She is a volunteer at the Nyalenda Young Turks CBO.She joined the organization in August 2021. She works under the department of Monitoring and Evaluation, with the main area being the system operations . She is dedicated to promote intergration and monitoring of field activity operations at the office level and also to provide a back-up mechanism for the organization data and information system . Helida has worked with the Royals Computer Centre as an officer incharge of all computer bureau services and a customer care and was once an intern at the KMTC- Kisumu Campus where she offered general user support,data analysis of teaching and non- teaching staff departments,hardware and software maintanance and installation , network configuration and installation among other key obligated duties. With her passion on promoting intergration from the manual ways of processing information to the digital ways .She joined Nyalenda Young Turks to acquire more skills and knowledge in her area of focus and the community at large.
